Green Living Spaces

Did you know...

  • This garden makes innovative use of recycled and reclaimed objects, with seating made from old bathtubs and planters fashioned from defunct industrial lighting units
  • Clever use of colour belies the designer's past as an art teacher. Jolts of red from the planting are echoed in the chairlegs and coffee pot, bringing the garden to life

About the Garden

This quirky urban balcony forms part of the first home of two young professionals. With an ever expanding collection of houseplants, herbs and windowsill chillies, these are budding plant enthusiasts and keen cooks longing for some outside green space.

The design encompasses relaxed seating and dining areas, surrounded by plants at different levels to create the effect of being within a larger garden. The balcony’s outside walls act as spaces for ‘living’ pictures and shelves for plants. The planting focuses on easy-to-maintain sempervivums, succulents, grasses and culinary plants, providing year-round interest.

Repurposed objects used as planters, upcycled furniture and sculptural works make this a creative space in which to relax.
