Key plants in The Ecotherapy Garden

The planting is designed to be in dappled shade and predominantly green, lush foliage

Melica altissima

An unassuming but beautiful grass that produces its airy sprays of white, grain-like flowers on slender stems that catch the slightest breeze.

Asplenium scolopendrium

An evergreen fern forming a rosette of arching, rich green, strap-shaped fronds 30-75cm in length, the margins often undulate. Spores borne in conspicuous transverse stripes beneath the fronds.

Dryopteris erythrosora

This striking deciduous fern has triangular-shaped fronds, which are coppery-red when young and slowly mature to dark green. One of our recommended plants, it needs plenty of moisture and contrasts beautifully with evergreen ferns and other woodland plants.

Rodgersia

Different varieties of this clump-forming perennial will be used in the garden for their large lush foliage and sprays of flowers.

Polygonatum × hybridum

A perennial with slightly arching stems to 1.2m, bearing ovate leaves and small axillary clusters of nodding, tubular creamy-white flowers tipped with green, appearing in late spring, and followed by black berries.
