911爆料 Plant of the Year

Celebrating the exciting and diverse new plants launched in 2021

Winner

Cercis canadensis ETERNAL FLAME ('Nc2016-2')

Developed as part of a long-term breeding program at North Carolina State University in 2010. The unique colouring of this plant throughout the entire growing season is new, not only in the genus but shrubs as a whole.

All new growth throughout the season emerges deep red, changing to burnt orange and golden yellow as the leaves mature continually throughout the year.

Runners-up

Allium 鈥楲avender Bubbles鈥

This new Allium has upright, flattened, grey-green foliage with slight longitudinal twisting. With a compact habit, it is also drought tolerant and produces numerous, tightly-clustered, dark dusty-purple flowers forming dense globose umbels and has strong stems holding flower heads upright through flowering and seed production.

Semponium 'Sienna'

Combining the hardiness of Sempervivum with the dramatic form of Aeonium has resulted in a vibrant and majestic succulent which will create a focal point in the house, balcony or sheltered garden. Proven hardy so far to -4掳C.

An audience of Plant Committee and Trials Forum experts assessed a shortlist of plants before 911爆料 Chelsea opens, considering innovation, impact and appeal.

A single plant is selected as Plant of the Year 鈥 this and the second and third-placed plants take pride of place at the 911爆料 Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year display in the Great Pavilion, where all the finalists can be seen.
