Did you know...
- The hardwood table is made from the same material as the decking (an FSC-certified hardwood called mandioqueira) to give a unified feel to the garden
- To make the garden more office friendly, a pop-up bank of sockets and USB ports (originally designed to be fitted into a kitchen worktop) has been installed in the table
- The planting is designed with pollinators in mind – it’s buzzing with bees, butterflies and hoverflies. Echinops ritro, in particular, is covered with insects
About the garden
Business & Pleasure is a versatile office garden that has naturalistic prairie-style planting contained in a contemporary design setting. The garden has three seating areas - the first being a home office with a desk and computer under a covered area so it can be used year round. The second is a long table that can seat up to eight people, a relaxing space to talk over ideas and enhance creativity in a stimulating setting. Lastly, there is a small bench at the end of the gravel path that can seat two and allows the user take in a different view of the garden.Other key features include a water trough in the middle of the garden providing contrast and simplicity to the planting around. The planting scheme contains various grasses that intermix with the bold colour of the perennial drifts.
The garden is inspired by the Highline and Piet Oudolf’s use of grasses as well as New York rooftop gardens where the more naturalistic planting provides an escape from the busy city life.
