Did you know...

  • A closer look reveals that new technologies are on display in this garden. The greenhouse, for example, incorporates LED lighting and the plants growing within its confines have been micropropogated by students at Reaseheath
  • Old favourites such as Heuchera, Echinacea and Nemesia populate the borders, but many of these plants are new species that have been bred in the last five years
  • Though the garden looks at its best in summer, there are many plants here that have interesting spring foliage or attractive seedheads in autumn. The acer, for example, blends into the summer border and adds height to the planting scheme but in autumn the foliage takes on a purple tinge adding glorious colour

About the garden

Inspired by traditional cottage gardens, A Path to the Future seeks to modernise the concept, creating an enjoyable yet functional space. The garden has been designed to be a section of a larger area to which the path connects. It features a greenhouse equipped with modern LED technologies, demonstrating modern methods of plant growing and propagation techniques.

The planting consists of a variety of grasses and other perennials bred within recent years. Densely packed grasses create a naturalistic screen that shields the garden from the surrounding open space, while creating an immersive setting. The dense planting provides an interesting variety of textures that contrast with the bold clean lines of the greenhouse.
